Kentucky composer and balladeer John Jacob Niles enjoyed a creative renaissance in his seventies and eighties, when discovered Zen Buddhism and the poetry of Thomas Merton.  Truly inspired by these ideas, Niles began writing a new kind of music for the soprano voice of Jacqueline Roberts.  Jackie Roberts' memoir of the eighteen years spent studying, touring and performing with the irrepressible composer is filled with his observations on life, music, Zen, creativity and always, the story behind each song.
