Jacqueline Roberts is well known in the Bluegrass
area for her long association with John Jacob Niles and for her extensive
performing and teaching career. She edited The Songs of ]ohn ]acob Niles,
published by the Mark Foster Music Company in 1982, selecting and editing
the last eight songs in that edition. Her memoirs of
the work with John Jacob Niles has been published by the University of Kentucky
Libraries, Occasional Paper No. 13 in 2001.
A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory of Music with a
Master of :Music degree from Miami University, Oxford Ohio, she was adjunct
professor at Asbury College, and for thirteen years adjunct professor of
voice at Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, KY.. |

Work
Jackie is a member of National Association of Teachers of Singing, a
Charter member of Lexington Federated Music Club, and a member of the
National Society of Arts and Letters, Kentucky Chapter. , Professionally,
she sang with the Roger Wagner Chorale in California. She has performed
leading roles in summer
theatre at Cain Park Theatre in Cleveland, Ohio. She was one of the charter members of the Lexington
Musical Theatre, and also served on the Board of that organization.
In her private studio, Ms. Roberts has taught many young
voice students, preparing them with an "Audition for College" to
go on to study at colleges and universities all over the country. Several
of her students have performed on Broadway. |

Family
Jacqueline Roberts lives with her husband Helm
Roberts, an architect/planner in Lexington, Kentucky.
Helm is notable as the designer of the unique Kentucky
Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Frankfort, KY, a sundial where the tip of
the gnomon shadow touches the name of the deceased on the day that each was killed. Her
son Bruce is President of the Carolina Financial Group of Brevard, North
Carolina, and her son ]ohn is a practicing Veterinarian and animal
pathologist, now teaching at the University of Florida, who spent two
years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Nepal. Jackie and Helm have five
grandchildren.
